About Us

Hey there! We’re Kenton and Becca Callahan, the husband-and-wife duo behind Family K9 Training, LLC. With over 30 years of combined experience in the professional dog world, working with dogs isn’t just our job—it’s our lifestyle. From basic manners to high-level competition obedience, we’ve trained thousands of dogs (and their humans!) over the years.

We believe training should fit into real life, which is why our approach is all about flexibility. Our most popular option, Private Lessons, are scheduled where it works best for you—your home, the neighborhood park, or even a trip to Home Depot. If that’s where your dog needs practice, we’ll meet you there!

When you work with us, you’re not just getting dog trainers—you’re getting a peek into our world. We live on a small farm with our two young kids, our own pack of personal dogs, and a few very opinionated cats. If your dog stays with us for training, they'll be part of our daily routine, interacting with our family and animals in a safe, structured environment that helps reinforce real-world behavior.

We’re passionate about what we do and love helping people build better relationships with their dogs. Reach out—we’d love to meet you and your pup!

Becca is a well-rounded trainer, having started out in 4-H as a young kid and later on going to work for a large scale Board and Train facility training thousands of dogs and their owners over her 15 year career there. Along with her husband, Kenton, she started Family K9. A veteran of the dog world well versed in many areas she has never stopped looking for new adventures to jump into with her dogs, her most recent sport being Flyball. While Becca has experience in several venues her passion is in competition Obedience having put over two dozen Obedience and Rally titles on a multitude of breeds for herself and clients.

Becca has trained and trialed dogs in Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Lure Coursing, Fast CAT, Earthdog, Barnhunt, IPO/Schutzhund, Dock Diving, Trick Dog, and CGC. Her current dog, Belgian Malinois "Nike" (CH Desert Mtn's Victory Takes Flight CD BN RN DS TKP BCAT CGC), is working to add Flyball and Agility to the list. "Nike" and the late great Lakeland Terrier "Tre" (CH Snowtaire's Go the Gusto RA  TKP JE) were the first of their respective breeds to earn the Trick Dog Performer title.

In 2009 Becca was asked to develop a canine behavior-evaluation test for a Western Washington chapter of the Humane Society to aid in its adoption program. Adopters are able to use the evaluations to consider the temperament of potential adoptees and select the dog that's right for them. Her system not only helped boost the number of adoptions, Becca says, but more importantly, has helped boost their success rate.

The American Kennel Club has designated Becca a certified official evaluator in its Canine Good Citizen Program and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has certified her to conduct Meet Your Match and SAFER behavior evaluations. Member of the Olympic Kennel Club and American Belgian Malinois Club.

Kenton Callahan is a seasoned dog trainer with nearly 15 years of hands-on experience in the professional dog training industry. His journey began in early childhood, participating in Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue activities with his family before he could even walk. By the time he was old enough to drive, Kenton was already working at a dog daycare, boarding, and grooming facility, where he discovered his natural ability to communicate with and understand canine behavior.

Eager to deepen his knowledge, Kenton completed a two-year apprenticeship at Paws-Abilities Dog Training Center in Fife, Washington. There, he gained extensive experience across various training disciplines, from basic obedience to advanced behavior modification. It was also during this time that he developed a strong interest in competitive dog sports. Kenton actively competes in Rally and Competition Obedience events throughout the Puget Sound area and encourages dog owners to explore these engaging activities with their pets.

Kenton's dedication to excellence is evident in his competitive achievements, having earned multiple High in Trial awards in both Rally and Obedience competitions. As a certified AKC Evaluator for all levels of the Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog programs, he is committed to helping clients build lasting, positive relationships with their dogs. At Family K9 Training, he offers personalized, real-world training solutions tailored to each dog's unique needs and environment.

In his free time, Kenton continues to refine his training skills with his accomplished Border Collie, "Ezreal", who has earned multiple titles in Rally and Obedience competitions. He is also excited to be working with his new Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, "Gerald," preparing him for future competition endeavors.
